Model Description

C57BL/6 mice have a high reproductive capacity, a long life span, and a low tumor susceptibility. Male mice are aggressive and fight frequently. Diet can cause obesity, type II diabetes, and atherosclerosis in these mice. The C57BL/6 mouse is the first to have its entire genome sequenced. It is the most extensively used inbred mouse strain as a genetic basis for congenic and mutant mice. It is also used in genetics, metabolism, immunology, neurology, behavioral research, pharmacodynamics, and medication safety evaluation.
